Guy Ritchie, director of Snatch and the Sherlock Holmes franchise, has been signed on by Warner Bros. to direct a medieval saga intended run across six films. Guy’s early work was pretty influenced by Tarantino, and has had huge success with the Sherlock movies starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, and seems to be a really cool fit for a King Arthur saga. Reports say that Guy has selected Charlie Hunnman (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim) over Jai Courtney and Henry Cavill for the lead role. Charlie is a solid actor and I’m glad to see he’s getting more work.
Variety has reported that Elizabeth Olsen (Godzilla, Avengers: Age of Ultron) is in the running to play the lead role in the King Arthur movies. We can only assume she would play Guinevere. Rumors are also circulating that Pacific Rim co star, Idris Elba is in talks with Guy Ritchie to play a role in the upcoming King Arthur movies. No news about who he would play, but Idris has worked with Guy in RocknRolla back in 2008.
This seems like a pretty cool project and the cast is really promising. The Warner Bros. and Village Road Show epic is slated to hit theatres July 22, 2016
