If I had to pick one word to describe this book, it would be bloody. Nailbiter is another fantastic product of Image Comics by Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson. Nailbiter #1 was so incredible that I was sure that I would be disappointed in issue two. I was dead wrong. The mixture of creative and creepy storytelling along with the jaw-dropping art is what makes this book so special. We pick up in issue two with a flashback to eight months earlier with the acquittal of Edward Warren (Nailbiter). The scene basically displays a universal reaction to his acquittal. Obviously there has to be more to this than just the jury finding him innocent. We then pick up where issue one left off, outside of Edward’s house. You can immediately tell that Edward is a class ‘A ‘ bull$#er. He explains that he has no idea where Carroll is and that he usually has weekly meetings with Carroll. Finch’s temper is running on low at this point and it’s apparent. During the sequence Shannon gets radio call about an apparent fire. When they arrive at the Carroll’s motel up in flames. We also see a mysterious man wearing The Book Burner mask. Finch immediately runs inside to grab Carroll’s notes. It’s clear that Carroll was onto something and somebody doesn’t want it getting out.
The last part of the book…is for you guys to read! Is Carroll dead? Is Nailbiter part of this diabolical plot? What’s up with Sheriff Crane and Edward? This book is a tremendous read. The art always makes me sick to my stomach, every time I see someone biting into meat I think that it’s human flesh. There’s a deep mythology buried in the town of Buckaroo that only Elliott Carroll knows the truth to. There is more to the 16 Buckaroo serial killer’s than any of us know. The horror nature in issue two is unreal. It creates a mood that will make you feel uneasy. One last thing, don’t chew your fingernails….
