OnePlus is a Chinese mobile start up company releasing their first mobile device to the world. The specs for the phone are unbelievable and are on par with the most up to date phones like the Nexus 5 and HTC One. The OnePlus packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor which is a quad-core processor at 2.5GHz. It packs the Adreno 330 GPU with 3GB of RAM. The camera on the device is a 13 megapixel Sony Exmor IMX214 camera with a f/2.0 aperture which will surely help with low light situations. What’s impressive with the camera is it’s not a single lens, but it packs in 6 lenses so that there are little to no distortion with the image due to the low f-stop. The camera is also able to shoot 4k video and 720p slow motion at 120fps. The front camera on the device has a 5 megapixel camera with a wider lens so all the people who love taking selfies will be in heaven! Only time will tell how good the front facing camera is however, I am a bit biased with front facing cameras due to my experiences with other devices being extremely low quality and choppy while skyping or facetiming (iphone). The device comes with a built in 3100 mAh battery, tri- microphone noise cancellation and a hefty 5.5″ 1080p IPS display with gorilla glass 3 which will surely look gorgeous.
What really got me excited about this phone is the sleek design and the multitude of customization options you have with the device. I especially like the wood trim design of the OnePlus it adds a unique feature to the phone as most devices on the market are limited on the customization aspect. The OS on the OnePlus is also an amazing idea with running the CyanogenMod 11s which is an android based ROM running on 4.4. CyanogenMod is a highly customizable OS with lots of features and no bloatware making the device run smooth and crisp (are you seeing a trend here?). The OnePlus packs in a lot of power in a sleek design with tons of customization options which will surely please a lot of people. They just announced the prices for the device today at 299$/£229 for the 16GB model and $349/£269 for the 64GB model (Unlocked prices) which comes in at a lower price of the Nexus 5 (349$ for the 16GB and 399$ for the 32GB) The OnePlus will be out at the end of second quarter of 2014 in the US, Canada, UK and certain parts of Europe, Hong Kong and Taiwan. They are holding a special for subscribing to their website to receive a OnePlus for only $1 (“Smash The Past“).
